Job Description/Responsibilities

As one of the key members of the accounting team, the payroll and equity accountant will be responsible for timely and accurate processing of payroll, payroll taxes related to equity awards, updating related systems with timely information, entries and reconciliation. This position will be relied upon for the implementation of standards, systems and procedures.

Primary Job Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities for this position are:

  • Prepare full-cycle semi-monthly payroll
  • Responsible for administering payroll system as necessary to include payroll processing, employee deductions, stock related tax reporting and withholding, changes and all accounting related entries for benefits and withholdings
  • Perform complete month-end and year-end accounting close process for payroll and equity entries
  • Perform monthly reconciliations of the payroll and equity related accounts
  • Maintain all payroll and equity related balance sheet account schedules on a monthly basis
  • Confirm and review stock option grant schedules for submission for approval
  • Manage payroll service provider relationship
  • Identify best practice with regards to operational excellence and internal control
  • Preparation of annual statements such as Forms 3921, 3922, W-2 and 1095 and etc.
  • Manage service provider fees and optimize cost
  • Develop and/or maintain training materials and resources to support employee understanding of all equity awards available for employees under the equity plans (options, restricted stock units and ESPP)
  • Collaborate with FP&A and Human Resources teams to develop appropriate and feasible equity compensation grant forecasts including new hire, annual, performance-based, promotion-based, and other types of equity grant issuances
  • Research and understand the applicability of a new rules, tax code or relevant legislation pertaining to payroll or stock option programs

Required Skills

Required skills and experience:

  • Minimum two years of general ledger accounting and payroll experience
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing
  • Analytical skills required in order to assist in the development and maintenance of the accounting, finance, and payroll related tasks
  • In-depth knowledge of general ledger accounting and payroll
  • Ability to use personal computers, spreadsheet and word processing software; knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word. Ability to learn accounting software and various payroll platforms
  • Employment background screening required
  • Proficiency with ADP is required

Education and Experience

  • Associate degree required
  • Bachelor degree in Accounting preferred
