Achronix has formed a strategic relationship with Intel to build the Speedster22i Platform. Based on Intel’s advanced 22nm process technology and utilizing Intel’s ground breaking 3-D Tri-Gate transistors, the Speedster22i Platform forms the basis of the latest Achronix FPGAs.
Speedster22i FPGAs have significant advantages over larger geometry 28nm FPGAs. By combining Intel’s 22nm process, 3-D Tri-Gate transistors and the innovative Achronix FPGA technology, Speedster22i FPGAs will yield up to 300% higher performance, 50% less power and 40% lower cost than FPGAs built on less advanced, 28nm processes.
Reinvention of the transistor, revolution of the FPGA
Up until now, all transistor channels have been flat, starting with 10 plus microns, right up to the latest 28nm process nodes. By building a 3-D transistor channel, Intel has launched the 22nm process far ahead of older generation process nodes, shrinking the size, and power while increasing performance. Tri-Gate technology was first disclosed by Intel in 2002 and after almost 10 years, it has been perfected and will be used for volume production. Devices such as the Ivy Bridge-based Intel Core family processors and the Speedster22i FPGA family will achieve volume production with the 22nm 3-D Tri-Gate transistor technology.
Achronix Speedster22i FPGAs are being built entirely from Intel’s ground breaking 3-D Tri-Gate transistors. Tri-Gate technology provides smaller, faster and lower power transistors, yielding significant advantages for FPGAs, which push the envelope of performance and density, while still requiring power to be minimized.
